Kendall Pond Conservation Area is located in south Londonderry,
near the intersection of South Road and Kendall Pond Road, just south of
the Crossroads Mall. It is a relativly small parcel of wooded land
bordering Kendall Pond and the swampy Beaver Brook that feeds it. Owned
by the town of Londonderry, it is selectively logged every 15 years as part
of the Conservation Comission's overall town conservation program.
After the most recent logging in 2000, Londonderry Trailways arranged for
the access roads left by the logging equipment to be converted into a parking
lot and recreational trails, and much of our activity in the area has consisted
of clearing and maintaining those roads. If you have never visited this area, you should give it a try. It is a great spot for young families, with its two trails situated between Beaver Brook/Kendall Pond and South Road, (you can't get lost). To give you an idea of what it is like, children as young as 3-4 years old can walk the yellow loop trail and children as young as 7-8 years old can even try riding their bicycles (depending on ability). The trails are all dirt but are wide, clear and mostly flat. There are even three picnic tables nestled in the pines just beyond the main entrance. And farther out there are benches and a bird house installed by a local boy scout troop. See below for a trail map Enjoy! Although this first project is complete, it does not mean other
projects cannot be started at KPCA. Once you've gone exploring let us know
what else you think is needed out there. Photos (click for larger photo):
